    AHCC v Sutton Veny

    9th June 2019

    Australia House Cricket Club
The Sutton Veny & Heytesbury Cricket Club

(see also other fixtures for your diary listed at the bottom of this page)

The Australian High Commission Cricket Club plays a number of fixtures throughout the year against various high-profile regional and organisation teams. AHCC has extended the invitation for our members and their guests to attend as spectators. This is a rare opportunity, as many of the games are played in historic or restricted private venues.

This annual match is in partnership with the West Country Branch of the Britain-Australia Society and it is a match with meaning…

Sutton Veny is an English country village rich with Australian Military History.  It was the site of the largest Australian Imperial Force training and convalescent depots in Great Britain and the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in the grounds of St John’s Church contains 168 First World War burials, 144 of them are Australians and the local townspeople have tended the graves for nearly 100 years and are very welcoming to our visitors.

The Australia House club may book a coach to and from the village. Enquire with us if you are interested in a space on this. The local club gives the visitors a great welcome and there is usually a barbecue and tea with cakes after the match, followed by a raffle and the award of the shield trophy.

There is no charge but it would be good to get notice of your attendance and whether you might partake of the barbecue.

Umpires and Scorers – If you’re able to help umpire for part of the day do please let us know.

Weather / cancellation – We have been lucky in recent years and we hope to be again. We do need a mobile number for your party in case of problems with access, and to inform if the event has to be cancelled.

Spectating Players – If you have room in your car/backpack you may like to bring your playing kit just in case (and maybe a picnic lunch)

    – you’re permitted to bring your canine/marsupial companion but it must be kept under control at all times.

Facilities – These are fairly limited. There are toilets at the ground and catering after the match as described. Theer are some nice walks around the village but the nearest shop is 2 miles away in Heytesbury.

Car Parking: Adjacent Sutton Veny CoE Primary School. Postcode BA12 7AP.
Public Transport:  Trains depart Waterloo (via Salisbury) or Paddington (via Westbury) and take around 2 1/2 hours to Warminster. Sutton Veny is 3 miles from Warminster.

You may like to consider making a weekend of it in Bath or Warminster.
