    B-AS Lecture with LBS 2018

    16th May 2018
    6:00pm to 8:30pm

In the end the weather was less than co-operative, but this did not hamper the event at all. This was Mr Brandis’ first public event as High Commissioner and attendees were privileged and appreciative to hear his first thoughts on assuming the role and his expectations for the bilateral relationship. Prof Macintyre gave a wide-ranging and candid view of the political landscape – as well as 3 suggestions for UK politics (that sadly have no chance of ever being adopted!)

In co-operation with the Australia New Zealand Club  of the prestigious London Business School we are pleased to present the Britain-Australia Society Lecture.

The Britain-Australia Society Lecture features an eminent individual who can speak with authority on an aspect of the British-Australian relationship. We are very pleased to be able to announce our speaker for 2018, Professor Clement Macintyre, who is eminently qualified to address this topic.

We are delighted to confirm that His Excellency The Hon. George Brandis QC, Australian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom,
    will make introductory remarks

The event will be held at the London Business School’s impressive building, picturesquely set on the edge of Regent’s Park.

There will be ample opportunity for networking over drinks and canapés before and after the presentation by our eminent guest speaker.

Prof. Macintyre is Emeritus Professor of Politics at the University of Adelaide and is an expert on UK politics.

He will give us the benefit of his unique insight by giving an overview of where British Politics is now:

    • the recent transformation of political parties
    • shifting electorate demographics
    • how sustainable this is
    • implications for the future relationship with Australia

This promises to be an excellent lecture bracketed by ample opportunity to mingle with both senior diplomats and the very bright scholars of the London Business School.
