Our host will be Marylyn Abbott, the Australian who rescued West Green House and transformed the gardens and created the annual West Green Opera season. We will meet Marylyn for a drink during the evening.
Included in your ticket price is the opera, a 3-course picnic dinner and drinks.
The Opera – The Marriage of Figaro
Mozart’s great work is presented in a brand new production. This sublime classical work is here sung in English by a stellar cast, accompanied by the West Green House Orchestra.
Figaro attempts to outwit Count Almaviva to secure a blemish-free wedding night for his bride Susanna. What should all be in a day’s work for our roguish hero is thwarted by the unexpected intentions of Marcellina who has plans to marry him herself. Assisted in his task by the selfless sacrifices of the neglected Countess, who seeks to teach the wayward Count a lesson, and compromised by the overactive adolescent Cherubino, Figaro strives to secure his goal.
In this perfectly constructed comedy of situations, truth will out and love will conquer. With costumes and designs inspired by the pastoral figurines of the late 18th century this elegant production presents a masterpiece with clarity and humour.
The West Green House Opera Season is a cultural jewel set in a beautiful 10 acre garden in the heart of the Hampshire countryside. Both the gardens and the Opera Season have been created by Australian Marylyn Abbott who, for the last twenty years, has developed and designed the Gardens to their current outstanding beauty and created an elegant and intimate Opera Season which offers country house opera at its professional and stylish best.
