Visit to Sandringham House, museum and gardens

    20th May 2014
    12:15pm to 6:00pm

In association with Sandringham Estate, The Norfolk Branch of The Society has arranged a visit to Sandringham House, Museum and Gardens to coincide with two events in their year:

    • this season, there will be an exhibition of the works of the noted seascape painter, Edward Seago, in the House.
    • our visit will coincide with the height of the spectacular rhododendron display in the garden.

Built in 1870 by the Prince and Princess of Wales, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, Sandringham was once described as ‘The most comfortable house in England’. It has been passed down as a private home through four generations of British monarchs and is now the country retreat of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

Our committee proposes that we should meet at 12.15p.m in the Visitors Centre car park, then proceed to the restaurant for a meal, before moving on to Sandringham House for our tour, which is due to commence at 2.00p.m. The tour will include all the State Rooms, the Seago picture exhibition, the wonderful display of vintage Royal cars – and, of course, the magnificent gardens.

We expect that our members and guests will have completed their tour by 5.00p.m and there will then be an opportunity to repair to the Terrace Coffee Shop for a light snack before departure.

Total cost (EXCLUDING MEALS) will be £12 per head, for those under 60, and £10 for the remainder.

Please confirm your interest as soon as possible so we can pass on approximate numbers to the Estate Office in good time for them to accommodate our arrangements.

I hope you will be able to join us on what we hope will be a sunny day in wonderful surroundings !

Best regards, Richard Robins. Branch Chairman
