Australian Knighthood awarded to HRH Prince Philip

Australian Knighthood awarded to HRH Prince Philip

Published 3rd February

The award of an AK Australian Knighthood honour has caused quite a bit of clamour among a press and public in Australia that likes nothing better than to worry a bone to death.

Of course all of us know that Prince Philip is indeed an active, interested and involved supporter of Australia.

HRH is an advocate of strong relations between our countries and it is very evident from his demeanour at our functions that he enjoys interacting with Australians. He has been very responsive to our requests – such as the signing, during his Christmas break at Sandringham, of the Award certificate for Mr Hague.

Prince Philip is Patron of around 800 organisations and attends around 350 functions annually – not bad going for a 93 year-old. Having HRH as a supporter is like having a film or music star as a supporter – it lends visibility to your cause and is a very valuable asset, whether you are a nation, a charity or a social club.

The Chairman of the Britain-Australia Society sent a letter of congratulations to His Royal Highness and I believe we all join in heartily congratulating him on the award.
