Richard Bonynge recording of Raymond and Agnes
Published 1st February
Richard Bonynge AC CBE should need no introduction as an Australian conductor of renown and particularly known for his long-standing artistic collaboration with his late wife, the soprano Dame Joan Sutherland.
Bonynge has specialised in the Italian operas that influenced English Romantic opera but in recent years has focused increasingly on English opera itself. In October he is contributing to the recording of an English opera from 1855. The opera’s composer, Edward Loder, hailed from Bath and “Raymond and Agnes” is the opera for which he is most noted.
The organisation reviving this work is Retrospect Opera and they are very keen to attract donors and supporters to enable the recording, and thus contribute to the artistic heritage of Britain.
