    Admiral Arthur Phillip Birthday Commemoration

    This year’s Admiral Arthur Phillip Birthday commemoration was a great success with around 40 members and guests attending the St Nicholas, Bathampton Church service and lunch at Bailbrook House hotel on Friday October 12, 2018.

    Tea was served in the Church Hall then Rev’d John Frith conducted the service, attended by His Excellency the High Commissioner for Australia; The Mayor of Bath, several Bath Councillors; Sir Roger Carrick & Lady Carrick; Nate Hayward, Assistant Director, B-AS and Kay Pavitt, Branch President, along with 50 pupils of the Bathampton Primary School. 

    The High Commissioner addressed the congregation, exponding on Admiral Phillip, Sir Roger Carrick read the lesson and a wreath was laid at the Admiral’s Grave.

    Around 40 guests retired to reception drinks and lunch in the Brunel Suite of the Bailbrook Hotel.  After speeches by the Mayor and High Commissioner, Professor Ian Henderson of the Menzies institute gave an address on “Indigenous Learnings”. Thanks go to the Australian High Commission for providing the wine.

    Australia Day Service and Lunch – Sunday 27th January 2019

    On January 29, 2019 the Branch will hold an Australia Day Service at Bristol Cathedral followed by lunch at the Bristol Commonwealth Society Clubhouse. A guest speaker from the SS Great Britain Trust will give an insight into aspects of life on board the ship as experienced by passengers sailing to Australia over 150 years ago.

    ANZAC Day – Sunday 28th April 2019

    The Branch Anzac Day lunch will again be held at the Warminster Officers Mess, followed by the annual service at St Johns Church at Sutton Veny. An executive of the Commonwealth War Graves commission will provide the address.
