Arthur Phillip Royal Navy
Scholarship Appeal

The Britain-Australia Society Education Trust
registered with the UK Charity Commission, number 803505

Arthur Phillip used his great skills of insight, management, pragmatism and humanitarianism to overcome huge odds to found the successful New South Wales colony, becoming the first Governor of modern Australia. He deserved to be much better recognised and in the bicentenary of his death that was remedied. Memorials were installed by the Trust in his home town of Bath and in the heart of Westminster Abbey.

A series of commemorative events surrounded these installations and were attended by many supporters from Britain and Australia including the Australian High Commissioner to the UK, HE Alexander Downer AC and the Governor of New South Wales, HE Prof The Hon Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO.

Following on from the memorials project the Trust continues to raise funds to support educational bursaries and scholarships to support young people who embody the admirable qualities and aspirations of Phillip and other early explorers of Australia. The first scholar under this scheme came from Arthur Phillip's own alma mater, the Royal Hospital School, and studied at Cranbrook in Sydney.

Thank you so much for your support.
